Today’s students will serve as tomorrow’s foremost materials scientists, and JIAM researchers are doing their part to groom science’s next generation. Indeed, graduate students contribute substantially to most of JIAM’s projects and, in return, they receive on-the-job training as well as guidance and mentoring from some of the world’s leading materials scientists.

To encourage graduate-student engagement, JIAM offers stipend supplements for up to three years to outstanding graduate students pursuing PhD degrees in the advanced materials area. To date, JIAM Graduate Fellowships have been awarded to students in several departments including: chemistry, chemical and biomolecular engineering, civil and environmental engineering, electrical engineering and computer science, materials science and engineering, and physics and astronomy.

For more information on JIAM’s Graduate Student Fellowship Program, contact JIAM Fellowship Committee Chair Dayakar Penumadu by e-mail at dpenumad@utk.edu.
