JIAM Diffraction Facility - Training

All training will be performed by the facility manager (users are not allowed to train other users). In the first training session (typically 1-2 hours, possibly more depending upon the situation/technique), the facility manager will inform you of the safety measures of the instrument and will demonstrate sample preparation and experiment setup. The user can bring a sample from their research to measure during this first session (if it is a powder, please make sure it is the consistency of fine sugar).

Before the second session can be scheduled, the user will need to complete online X-ray safety training (contact Jami Holbert at jholber2@utk.edu to request training) and email the certificate of completion to the facility manager (Michael Koehler, mrkoehler@gmail.com).

In the second session (typically 1 hour, possibly more depending upon the situation/technique), the facility manager will supervise as the user completes all of the steps to run a successful experiment. If the facility manager determines that the user is ready to use the instrument alone and the user signs the User Agreement, access to the Google calendar will be granted so that they are able to schedule their own time on the instrument(s).
